EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State wrestling fell to conference foe and No. 11-ranked Illinois in its second Big Ten dual meet of the season on Friday night, 31-12, at historic Jenison Field House.
The Spartans move to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Big Ten duals this season. MSU returns to the mat next Friday when they travel to take on Purdue at 5:00 p.m. from Holloway Gymnasium.
Redshirt freshman Darius Marines continued his strong start to the season at 157 pounds on Friday, picking up a fall over Ryan Bennett to get the Spartans on the scoreboard. Marines trailed through the first two periods but came back in the third period with a takedown before pinning Bennett 6:33 into the bout.
At 197 pounds, redshirt junior Kael Wisler picked up a sudden victory decision over Dylan Connell, 9-6. Wisler battled his way back into the dual, using a reversal and riding time late in the third period to force a sudden victory period. There, Wisler earned a takedown near the edge of the mat to secure the decision.
Redshirt junior Josh Terrill won his first dual match of the season on Friday defeating Ryan Boersma by a 1-0 decision. The bout remained scoreless into the third period until Terrill earned the escape.
