Spartans Drop 4-0 Decision at No. 15 Arizona

Wildcats secure doubles point and three singles matches
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State men's tennis wraps up action in Arizona after falling to the No. 15 Arizona Wildcats on Tuesday in Tucson.
The Spartans put up a good fight in doubles play, aiming to get on the board early, but ultimately dropped the doubles point.
At No. 1 doubles, junior Taym Alazmeh and sophomore Danial Rakhmatullayev dropped a 6-2 decision to UA's Filip Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov. Sophomore Matthew Forbes and senior Ozan Baris fell 6-3 on court two against Jay Friend and Alexander Rozin of Arizona. The No. 3 doubles match for sophomore Mitchell Sheldon and junior Aristotelis Thanos went unfinished against Alejandro Arcila and Cole Stelse.
Arizona carried momentum into singles, clinching the match with three straight-set victories. At No. 1 singles, Thanos faced Friend but fell, 4-6, 0-6. Alazmeh fought hard against Gustafsson, but was defeated in a tough 2-6, 4-6. Senior David Saye squared off against Zoran Ludoski, but fell, 4-6, 3-6.
Singles matches featuring Forbes, Sheldon and Rakhmatullayev were left unfinished.
The Spartans return home this weekend for a weekend full of tennis at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center, Friday and Sunday, opening Big Ten Conference play against Nebraska at 5 p.m. on Friday and Wisconsin on Sunday at 12 p.m.
