Zachery Ball joined the Michigan State track and field program as an assistant coach for throws in August 2021. He enters his second season with the Spartans for the 2022-23 season.
Ball arrived in East Lansing after one year with Central Michigan's track & field program.
Ball spent the 2020-21 season with the Chippewas, where he guided Quiara Wheeler to the NCAA Championships and All-American honors in both the hammer throw and the weight throw. Prior to CMU, the Cleveland, Ohio native was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Towson's track & field program for two years, seeing his throwers set program records in the indoor weight throw and shot put, as well as the outdoor shot put and discus.

He got his coaching start as an assistant coach and director of operations for the cross country/track & field program at Northwood. In three years there, he coached three athletes to school records as well as four NCAA provisional standard marks. Ball was a six-time Division II All-American himself during his time as a student-athlete at Ashland, earning NCAA runner-up twice.
