Taylor Els joins the Spartan volleyball staff in 2020 as the volunteer assistant coach.
Els is a 2020 graduate of Northern Colorado, where she was a four-year letterwinner who earned a starting role as a freshman. A stalwart defensive force and libero for her squad, she led her team in digs in each of her final three seasons, was a steady and effective server, and finished her career with 1,818 career digs – good for third place all-time in the UNC history books.
Els helped guide the Bears to one of the finest seasons in program history in 2019, when UNC went 26-8, the most wins for the program since joining the Division I ranks. A 17-1 record captured the Big Sky regular-season title, and three straight wins in the postseason tournament captured the squad the automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Bears fell to host Hawaii 3-1 in the first round, a match in which Els contributed 22 digs. She was a three-time Big Sky All-Academic Team honoree and contributed to four consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award distinctions. She earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a senior as well.
A graduate of Lincoln Southwest (Nebraska) high school, Els has a twin brother, Bo, and an older sister, Julie. Her father, Ross, is on the Michigan State football staff (special teams coordinator and linebackers coach).
