Vladimir Frenc joins the Spartan volleyball staff for the 2019 season as the program’s volunteer assistant coach.
An accomplished coach and player in the international stage, the Belgrade, Serbia native joins the staff after several seasons at Chicago’s Michio Volleyball Academy. At MIchio, Frenc was the head coach of the 16 Select (2015-16), 17 Premier (2016-17) an 15 National (2017-19) teams, and assisted club-wide with both player development and coach training.
Frenc also brings collegiate coaching and playing experience with him to East Lansing. He began his coaching career in the US as an assistant coach for the women’s program at Lewis University (Illinois), , and helped the Flyers to 31-5 record, a GLVC title and NCAA Regional semifinal appearance in his first season (2015), then compiled a 29-8 record and advanced to the Final Four a year later.
Frenc has head coaching experience, guiding teams at the International School of Belgrade and OK Serbia Volleyball Club after he completed his international playing career with both the Zeleznicar Volleyball Club of the National Adult Serbian League and also the Partizan Belgrade Volleyball Club. As a player with the Partizan Belgrade, he was a two-time silver medalist in the Belgrade Club Championship (2002-2003) and a bronze medalist in the Serbia and Montenegro Championship (2003).
The newest MSU coach began his collegiate playing career at Missouri Valley College (2007-08), where he earned Freshman of the Year honors, was picked as an NAIA West MAMVIC First team All-Conference selection, and compiled the most kills and service aces per game for the Vikings during the 2007-08 season.
He transferred and completed his career at Cardinal Stritch University (2009-10), where he was a two-time MVP of the NAIA East/MAMVIC Conference, helping the Wolves to the NAIA semifinals in both 2009 and 2010. He was an AVCA NAIA All-American in 2010 as well, and helped guide his squad to a 50-19 record in two seasons.
