Volleyball Falls To Penn State in Four.

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State volleyball team lost to No. 12 Penn State, 15-11, 6-15, 10-15, 7-15, on Friday night in Jenison Field House. The 19th-ranked Spartans fall to 10-4 overall, 3-2 in the Big Ten Conference, while Penn State raises its record to 13-4 overall, 2-3 in the Big Ten.
Sarah Gustin led the Spartans with 20 kills while Jessica Sanborn chipped in with 13 kills and 13 digs. Christie Landry and Angela Morley both set season blocking highs with five and seven, respectively. Emily Engel, who saw her first game action since Sept. 2, set a career high with nine digs.
Neither team was spectacular, as Penn State outhit MSU .199 to .171 and the teams combined for 22 service errors, 14 by Michigan State. Both teams were strong on the block as MSU won that category, 16-13, tying its season blocking high.
Mishka Levy led the way for the Nittany Lions with 17 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. Amanda Rome contributed 15 more kills, while Katie Schumacher also had a double-double with 12 kills and 10 blocks.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 7 against Indiana at 7 p.m. in East Lansing.
