No. 18 Volleyball Swept by Wisconsin, 3-0

MADISON, Wis. - The No. 18 Michigan State volleyball team (14-3, 2-3) fell, 3-0, to the Wisconsin Badgers at the UW Fieldhouse this evening. Sophomore Kyndra Abron (Livonia, Mich.) led the Spartan attack, tallying 10 kills while hitting .600.
The Spartans got off to a sluggish start in the first set, falling behind early 8-3, forcing a MSU timeout. The Badgers extended their lead to six, taking a 16-10 lead before Michigan State call its second timeout of the set. The Spartans were unable to gather themselves, falling to UW, 25-16.
The Green and White got out to a better start to begin the second set, 3-0, before the Badgers took the next five of six points, getting out to a 5-4 lead. Michigan State would go on to trade points with Wisconsin, before a Spartan timeout with the score tied at 13. MSU had a 19-18 lead when Wisconsin called its first timeout of the set. UW responded with three straight points following the timeout, before MSU called one of its own with the score 21-19. The Badgers ended up pulling away with a 27-25 win to conclude the second set.
The third set saw the Spartans get to an early 7-4 lead. However, the Badgers stormed back to tie the set at eight, forcing a MSU timeout. UW began to slowly pull away from MSU, taking a 17-14 lead, before the Green and White called another timeout. The Spartans responded by taking the next six of seven points to go ahead 21-18. The two teams would end up trading five set points, before the Badgers downed MSU 29-27 in the third set, completing the sweep of the Spartans.
Sophomore Natalie Emro (Wildwood, Mo.) led the Spartans with 30 assists on the night. Junior Allyson Karaba (Muskegon, Mich.) anchored the MSU defense, tallying 39 digs. Senior Vanessa King (Spring Lake, Mich.), junior Megan Schatzle (Monroe, Mich.) and redshirt sophomore Jenilee Rathje (Mount Pleasant, Mich.) tallied two blocks each in the effort against Wisconsin.
The Spartans are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 11, when they travel to Iowa City for a Sunday matinee match against the Hawkeyes beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
