Volleyball Takes Down Youngstown State, 3-1

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's volleyball team defeated Youngstown State, 3-1, in its second match of the Spartan Showcase at Jenison Field House. Junior Lauren Wicinski led all players with 24 kills in the match and also had 11 digs, notching her first double-double of the season.
Michigan State started slow and dropped the first set to the Penguins, 25-22. The Spartans then bounced back and took the final three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-22.
Junior Kristen Kelsay led MSU with 46 assists, besting her previous career-high of 44, and also added 10 digs for a double-double. Kelsey Kuipers also set a career-high mark with 14 kills in the match. Leading MSU defensively, Kori Moster had 13 digs and Alexis Mathews chipped in with six blocks.
Michigan State takes on Eastern Kentucky tonight, at 7:30 p.m., at Jenison Field House. Both teams are undefeated in the Showcase after the Colonels topped McNeese State earlier today, 3-0.
