Rowers Open 2017 At Oak Ridge

East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State's rowing program begins the 2017 season at the sixth annual Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on March 11-12 at the Melton Lake Rowing Venue in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
While there will be no live updating of results online, but results will be available at the end of each day at www.herenow.com. Live results will be provided throughout the day via the @UofLRowing Twitter account.
The Spartans are among three Big Ten teams in the event, along with Michigan and Minnesota. Also rowing in Oak Ridge this weekend will be Clemson, Kansas, Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Tulsa, Virginia and West Virginia.
The racing is broken up into three sessons - a morning (9:14 am start) and afternoon (3:10 pm start) on Sunday, and the final session that begins at 9:14 am on Sunday morning. The Spartans will field two varsity eights, a varsity four, and a pair of novice eight entries.
In the Saturday morning session, the Spartans will race Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Virginia. The Cavaliers were third in last year's final Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) national poll, while the Fighting Irish were 18th. MSU's first race (the varsity eight) is at 10:58 am. In the afternoon, MSU gets Clemson, West Virginia, and Big Ten foe Minnesota, beginning at 5:10 pm, the final grouping of the day.
On Sunday, the Spartans are on the water in the first group, lining up with Tennessee, Michigan and Virginia. Michigan finished 10th in the CRCA national poll in 2016. The first race for MSU will be the varsity eight at 9:14.
The Spartans have spent the last week training in Clinton, Tenn. during their spring break. This has allowed MSU not only great training facilities, but also a climate that they will race in this weekend.
The Spartans are led by a varsity eight that took 15th at the prestigious Head of the Charles back in October.
