THE WEEKEND AHEAD
 •  The Spartans have their final two-game trip on the schedule, traveling to  Rutgers and Penn State.  These teams will meet again next weekend in East Lansing, with Rutgers visiting on Friday and PSU on Saturday.
•  MSU has eight games remaining on the schedule, and five of them will be played at Jenison Field House.  Â
•  Both matches will have live video webstream on B1G+.  MSUSpartans.com has links to all live statistics and webstreams.
•  MSU dropped a pair of 3-1 decisions in its two matches last weekend - MSU fell to Iowa at home last Friday, and at Ohio State on the road in a Sunday matinee. Â
•  MSU's  win at Purdue (10/20)  was Cathy George's 300th at Michigan State, an epic 3-2 upset victory and a memorable way for the mentor to celebrate a milestone victory.  She is 300-227 in her 17th season at Michigan State and 665-451 overall in her 35th season.Â
•  Rutgers enters the weekend at 8-15 overall and 0-12 in Big Ten play, most recently a difficult 3-2 setback at Indiana last Saturday.  Caitlin Schweihofer is in her second season as the mentor for the Scarlet Knights.Â
•  MSU leads the all-time series with Rutgers by an 11-2 margin, with just one of those matches played prior to the Scarlet Knights joining the league.  Rutgers earned their first-ever victories over MSU last year in East Lansing, 3-2 and 3-1. Â
•  Penn State comes into the weekend series with a 15-7 overall record and is 8-4 in the Big Ten.  The Nittany Lions have split each of their last four weekends,  most recently falling to unranked Illinois after losses to Wisconsin, Purdue, and Nebraska.  .  MSU trails the all-time series with the Nittany Lions 7-50, and Penn State has won 13 straight between the teams.
•  Russ Rose is in his 43rd season as the head coach of the Penn State program, and is the sport's all-time winningest coach with more than 1,300 career victories.Â
TEAM NOTESÂ Â Â
•  MSU has been without the services of at least one starter in every match this season.  Senior DS/L Lauryn Gibbs missed the first 13 matches of the season,MB  Rebecka Poljan has missed nine of the last 10 contests (and saw limited action in last Sunday's match at Ohio State) and Cecilee Max-Brown did not play in either match last week vs. Iowa or Ohio State. Â
•  Michigan State put up a season high 14 blocks at Ohio State on Sunday, out-blocking their hosts 14-9 after being tied with the Hawkeyes 9-9 in the Friday match. Â
•  MSU's average  of 1.53  service aces per set on the season ranks fourth in the Big Ten.  The Spartans are averaging 1.50 service aces per set in Conference games, which ranks second behind Nebraska (1.91). Â
•  MSU's 11.95 assists per set is good for sixth in the Big Ten. Â
•  After posting back-to-back season bests in kills against Maryland (Oct. 16, 58) and Purdue (Oct. 20, 67), MSU is averaging 12.68 per frame, which ranks ninth in the Big Ten.  The 67 kills is the sixth-highest total for any team in a conference game this season.Â
•  The Spartans are 9-2 when hitting .200 or better (7-0 when terminating at .300 or better).  MSU is 0-10 if it hits below .200 in a match.  The Spartans hit .203 against Minnesota (10/9) and then hit .201 vs. Maryland (10/16) - the only times this season the Spartans have hit .200 or better and lost. Â
•  Seven of MSU's nine victories have come by 3-0 scores, with one in four (Central Michigan) and one in five (at Purdue).  Eight of MSU's 12 losses are to either a ranked team (No. 13 BYU, No. 12 Nebraska, No. 7 OSU, No. 8 Minnesota, No. 3 Wisconsin) or a team receiving votes in the AVCA poll (Wright State, Michigan).
