
Spartans Claim Five Event Titles at Michigan Invitational

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan State track & field continued the indoor season at the Michigan Invitational Saturday, posting five event wins and a number of personal bests at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
SPRINTS/HURDLES
Senior Amani Nuels won the 60m in 7.59 after qualifying for the finals in the top spot. Freshman Anyssa Hall finished sixth in the event with a personal best of 7.91. Junior Kaia Scheffler qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.62, placing third in the finals in 8.65. In the 400m, graduate student Nala Barlow earned runner-up honors with a time of 57.35. Graduate student Shakira Dancy (57.82) and sophomore Lexy Alston (58.81) both set season bests in the event, placing fourth and seventh.
Senior Heath Baldwin claimed the 60m hurdles title on the men's side, clocking 8.24. Sophomore Dylan Terryberry set a personal best in 8.90 for third. Senior Antonio Postell and sophomore Logan Allen qualified for the 60m finals, finishing second (6.87) and fifth (6.98).
Senior Kendel Hammock finished fifth in the 400 with a time of 50.11. Senior Jalen Smith ran 1:22.11 in the 600m for sixth. MSU's 4x400 team of Jalen Smith, John Petruno, Luke Perelli and Gage Killewald finished fifth in 3:25.42.
JUMPS
MSU was represented well in the women's pole vault, with freshman Sophia Mettes posting a 3.96m to take the win. The Spartans also took third (Natalie Blake, 3.66m) and fifth (Breanne Black, 3.51m). Freshman Autumn Glover took seventh in the long jump with a mark of 5.30m, followed by senior Olivia Lopez in eighth with a mark of 5.29m. In the high jump, junior Elizabeth Knoll and freshman Korin Whitcomb both cleared 1.63m for fifth and seventh, respectively.
Senior Trevor Stephenson used a 5.20m clearance to win the men's pole vault. Senior Michael Davenport took third, clearing 4.90m, and Baldwin cleared 4.45m for fifth. MSU took three of the top five spots in the long jump, led by sophomore Jalen Nelson in third with a personal-best mark of 6.89m. Sophomore Trey Searles (6.81m) and Terryberry (6.77m) followed in fourth and fifth. In the high jump, sophomore Tylor Leedom and freshman Brady Schultz cleared 2.00m for a tie of fourth place.
DISTANCE
Sophomore Julia Bajt ran a personal best of 2:21.72 in the 800m for the Spartan women. Sophomores Avery McLean and Tess Piper ran 2:22.33 and 2:23.06, respectively. Graduate student Annika Linzmeier ran 10:43.05 in the 3000m for sixth place.
On the men's side, freshman Timothy Cherry won the 800m in 1:51.96 running unattached. Sophomore Gage Killewald (1:53.50) finished third in the event, while graduate student John Petruno ran 1:55.01 for sixth. Junior Andrew Nolan set a new personal best of 4:06.53 to win his heat and place 13th overall in a competitive mile field. Four additional Spartans ran under 4:15 in the event, with Jack Pennewell running 4:08.92, Owen Huard running 4:10.25, Alexander Penski running 4:12:46 and Abdi-Fetah Ahmed running 4:12.51. Freshman Riley Hough ran 4:08.07 unattached. In the 3000m, three Spartans placed in the top 10, led by junior Andrew Lane in fifth (8:12.74). Graduate student CarLee Stimpfel finished closely behind in 8:14.00 for sixth, while senior Aden Smith placed 10th in 8:22.58.
THROWS
Sophomore Validian Pallett recorded a personal best in the women's shot put of 14.85m to place second in the event. Pallett also finished second in the weight throw, recording a mark of 18.76m on her sixth and final attempt. Freshman Janan Khalil (15.97m) placed fifth.
In the men's weight throw, junior Joshua DeVries placed fifth with a mark of 17.59m. Sophomore Brendan Vander Meer placed ninth with a 16.21m throw.
